RuPaul's Drag Race Australia 'to begin filming this month'

Filming on a new version of RuPaul's Drag Race in Australia and New Zealand will reportedly get underway later this month.

Filming on a local version of RuPaul's Drag Race for Australia and New Zealand will reportedly begin later this month.

The ultimate drag contest has been steadily launching in more territories around the world over the last few years, including the UK, Canada and the Netherlands.

According to the Daily Mail, the next spinoff will feature Aussie and Kiwi queens and will be filmed from January 29.

The publication says that due to the coronavirus situation in Australia, the series will be filmed in New Zealand, with Drag Race alum Courtney Act thought to have been lined up as the host.

It is unclear whether RuPaul will be involved in the new spinoff; the only franchise he has committed to fully outside of the US is the UK version, which returns for its second series next week.

Michelle Visage - judge in both the US and UK - is currently thought to be in New Zealand, suggesting that she may have some role, while Aussie TV and radio personality Joel Creasy has also been mentioned as a potential judge.

Drag Race Australia is said to be in development for Aussie streaming service Stan and will premiere later this year.
