The BBC has reportedly banned the cast of Strictly Come Dancing from discussing Giovanni Pernice following his controversial exit from the show.
The 33-year-old quit the ballroom contest last month after nine series following allegations from some of his former celebrity partners that his training methods were overly aggressive.
The Italian has strenuously denied the accusations and has received support from some of his co-stars, including head judge Shirley Ballas, who described him as "a perfect gentleman".
The BBC is conducting an investigation into the saga and has now instructed the show's stars to refrain from commenting on the matter any further, according to The Sun.
One of the dancers, whom the paper chose not to name, said: "I'm not allowed to comment. We've been told not to talk about it until the official Strictly statement."
A show source said: "We're just a few weeks away from the 2024 cast reveal and bosses are worried the scandal is now dangerously close to overshadowing the new series.
"A lot of work has gone into it as it's the 20th anniversary, and now - still - all anyone talks about is Giovanni.
"Shirley launching such a passionate defence of him was far from helpful and stoked the flames. Bosses hope gagging the cast will help.
"It will require some fancy footwork, but the cast have all been trained on how to handle questioning and politely sidestep difficult topics."
This year's series is due to begin on BBC One in late September.
