Lord Sugar keen to do five more series of The Apprentice

Lord Sugar says that he is keen to continue hosting The Apprentice until its 20th series.

Lord Sugar has revealed that he wants to continue doing The Apprentice for another five series.

The business-based reality show has been a regular fixture of the BBC schedules since 2005 and has aired for 15 series, although filming of the 16th series this year was abandoned due to coronavirus.

It remains unclear whether the show will skip a series or air two series in 2021 to catch up, but regardless Sugar, 73, has the aim of carrying on as host until series 20.

"I said last year that I wanted to do 20 years. We would have been doing series 16 this year and I was happy to do four more," he told reporters this week.

"But of course it is the BBC who will decide if they wish to do it. I fully understand they are in charge but if they wanted to do it, I think 20 years is a nice round figure."

In lieu of the regular series this year, the BBC is airing a six-part The Apprentice: Best Bits series from next Thursday, October 1.
