ITV's political editor Robert Peston emerges as a surprise name in the frame for the upcoming celebrity edition of The Traitors.

ITV's political editor Robert Peston has emerged as a surprise potential participant in the upcoming celebrity edition of The Traitors.

The deceit-based reality show is one of the BBC's biggest hits in recent years, prompting the broadcaster to commission a spinoff featuring famous faces as the Faithfuls and Traitors.

Among the names thought to be in the lineup are Stephen Fry, Clare Balding and Tom Daley, and according to The Sun, they will be joined in the game by veteran political and economics journalist Peston.

"Poaching Peston for Traitors shows real ingenuity on the BBC's part, and it's a huge insight into the kind of show Celebrity Traitors will be," a source told the newspaper.

"Casting is still underway, but this won't be reality stars and the usual faces. It will be genuinely interesting names, doing the kind of TV they're unlikely to enrol in again.

"Peston will be relying on his knowledge of Westminster back-stabbing to bring his A-game to Celebrity Traitors."

Filming of the celebrity series is due to take place early next year for an expected broadcast later in 2025.
