Sherlock and Fleabag star Andrew Scott is reportedly in talks to play Tony Blair in the upcoming fifth and sixth seasons of The Crown.
The final two seasons of the epic Netflix drama will chart The Queen's reign through the 1990s into the early 21st century - a period which included the deaths of Princess Diana, The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret, as well as Blair's landslide victory in the election of 1997.
Imelda Staunton is taking over from Olivia Colman as The Queen, while Jonathan Pryce is playing Prince Philip, Dominic West will star as Prince Charles and Elizabeth Debicki will portray Diana in the final years of her life.
According to The Sun, Scott is now being lined up to play Blair, who served as Prime Minister for 10 years and won three elections in a row.
"This role is one of the most anticipated castings on The Crown," a source told the newspaper.
"The final series covers the Prime Minister's epic clash with The Queen over her response to the death of Diana in 1997.
"So the creators wanted an adaptable actor like Andrew who has proved he can master the charm and intimidating presence that typified Blair."
The fifth season of The Crown begins filming this summer for release on Netflix in late 2022.
