The BBC announces recommissions for a quartet of popular dramas, including Time, Vigil, The Tourist and The Responder.

The BBC has handed second series to a quartet of dramas, including Suranne Jones thriller Vigil.

Also returning for new runs are the BBC's two top-rated new dramas of 2022 so far - Jamie Dornan's The Tourist, which launched to 12m viewers, and Martin Freeman police procedural The Responder, which launched to 10m.

The broadcaster is also bringing back Jimmy McGovern's hugely acclaimed drama Time for three new episodes, which will feature an all-new cast in an all-new female prison.

Charlotte Moore, chief content officer at the BBC, said: "The BBC is on fire creatively and the return of four of our biggest dramas over the last year demonstrates the sheer scale and range of storytelling on the BBC."

Further details about each of the new series, including likely transmission dates, will be revealed in the coming months.
