Supernatural star Jared Padalecki has revealed that he was blindsided by long-time co-star Jensen Ackles's announcement of a prequel series this week.
The much-loved show, which starred the two actors as demon-hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, came to an end last year after a landmark 15 seasons on the air.
Several days ago, Ackles went public with the news that he is developing a prequel series, The Winchesters, which will be centred around the brothers' parents and feature his character as the narrator.
Following the announcement, Padalecki tweeted to Ackles: "Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I'm excited to watch but sad that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever."
One fan then tweeted at Padalecki to ask if he was joking, to which he responded: "No. It's not. This is the first I've heard about it. I'm gutted."
In another since-deleted tweet aimed at Supernatural ep Robbie Thompson, who will write the script for The Winchesters, he wrote: "Et tu brute? Wow. What a truly awful thing you've done. #Bravo you coward."
Several hours later, Padalecki announced that he had since a long discussion with Ackles about the project and had ironed out their differences.
"@JensenAckles and I had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good," he wrote. "The show is early in the process with miles to go.
"We've travelled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don't stop us. Once brothers, always brothers. #spnfamily"
Ackles replied: "Love you @jarpad ...Miss these talks. I forgot how much face time we always used to get. And I miss that too. I know you're busy...as am I, but you're still my brother. I miss you, pal."
The Winchesters has yet to get the official greenlight from The CW, meanwhile, with the network having only committed to a script order so far.
