Kate Winslet has revealed that she would "love" the opportunity to make a second season of Mare of Easttown.

The mystery drama, which stars Winslet as the eponymous police detective Mare Sheehan, ended its seven-episode run at the weekend with a revelatory and emotionally-charged finale.

The show had been billed as a limited event miniseries but over the course of its run it has grown in both acclaim and viewership, prompting speculation that an agreement could be sought to make a second season.

Asked about Mare's future, Winslet told TVLine: "I would absolutely love to play Mare again.

"I miss her. I really do. It's the strangest thing. I feel like I'm in mourning.

"It was an absolutely wonderful role... There's something very addictive about Mare, because she's so outrageous and lovable and brilliant and real, you know? I loved playing her."

In the UK the show aired on Sky Atlantic, with all seven episodes now available on catch-up.
