New show to give footballers chance to resurrect careers
The BBC gives the go-ahead to a new series that will follow former Academy players as they attempt to resurrect their football careers.

The BBC has commissioned a new show that will see a group of former footballers given a second chance to make it big.

Back In The Game will follow former Academy players from some of the country's top clubs as they are put through their paces by top coaches in an attempt to earn themselves pro contracts.

"There is a huge number of footballers who see their careers implode, sometimes through no fault of their own. The chances of making it as a professional are so slim, but there are plenty of players who still have much to offer," a source told The Sun.

"This show will help them get back on their feet and offer the type of assistance they're unlikely to receive at lower levels of the game. The big hope is that some of these players can earn a pro contract.

"The out-of-contract players will play a match in front of scouts from some of the UK's biggest clubs following the conclusion of their elite training. Hopefully by then they'll have polished up their skills and found the right mindset to give their careers another go."

Back In The Game is expected to air early in 2022.
