Sir Elton John collects an Emmy Award to become the 19th entertainer to achieve EGOT status.

Sir Elton John has achieved the entertainment industry's holy grail of EGOT status.

The exclusive club is for entertainers who have won each of an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award - a feat having only been previously achieved by 18 performers.

Elton, 76, finally ticked off the 'E' on the list last night in Los Angeles as he won the Emmy Award for his Disney+ special Elton John: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.

In a statement, he said: "I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight.

"The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world.

"Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy that it brings to all our lives.

"Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career, I am incredibly grateful."

Elton had been in 'GOT' status since 2000, when he collected a Tony Award, and also boasts two Oscars and five Grammys, plus a special achievement Grammy.

The club of living EGOT members is now 13-strong and also includes the likes of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jennifer Hudson, Whoopi Goldberg, Viola Davis and 97-year-old Mel Brooks.
