Barry Gibb in line for first UK solo number one album

Barry Gibb is on track for his first UK number one album as a solo artist with a country reworking of the Bee Gees' biggest hits.

Barry Gibb is on course to notch up his first UK number one album as a solo artist, according to the latest data from the Official Charts Company.

Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers' Songbook (Vol. 1) is a reworking of the Bee Gees' biggest hits as country songs, featuring collaborations with the likes of Dolly Parton and Keith Urban - and is in the lead after the first 72 hours of sales.

Gibb previously hit a solo high of number three with In The Now in 2016, while as a member of the Bee Gees he has hit the top spot just once before.

The nearest competition this week comes from Passenger, whose 13th studio album Songs for the Drunk and Broken Hearted is tracking in second place.

Five years on from his death, David Bowie is back in the midweek Top 10 with greatest hits album Legacy at 10, while a Gold collection from Europe is at 34.
