The Killers surge towards number one on albums chart

The new album from The Killers, Imploding The Mirage, is on course for a huge debut atop the albums chart.

The Killers are set for a huge debut on top of the UK albums chart with their new album Imploding The Mirage, midweek data suggests.

According to figures provided by the Official Charts Company, the record racked up 44,000 chart sales in the first three days of release and is on track to top the year's fastest seller, Lady Gaga's Chromatica, which managed an opening week of 53,000.

Imploding The Mirage is currently outselling the rest of the top 20 combined and will become the group's sixth successive number one on Friday.

Erasure's 18th studio album The Neon is tracking at number two and should they maintain that position it will represent their best-performing release in 26 years.

Liverpool football fan favourite Jamie Webster's debut release, We Get By, is currently in third.
