Arteta confirms "significant" Thomas Partey injury

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta suggests that Thomas Partey will not return from a thigh injury for at least another couple of weeks.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed that Thomas Partey will miss "the next few games" with a thigh injury.

Despite being forced off against Aston Villa on November 8, Partey was initially expected to make his return after the international break.

However, the Ghana international has not featured for the last three matches, leading to Arteta to suggest that the summer arrival will remain absent for the foreseeable future.

Speaking to reporters, Arteta said: "We knew it was a significant injury. He's done very well and he's working very hard, he wants to be available.

"Hopefully we can get him back soon but it's an area we need to be careful and we need to be protective with the player. I don't think he will be with us in the next few games."

Partey is now expected to miss next weekend's London derby, with the clash against Burnley on December 13 potentially regarded as a return date.
