Bruno Guimaraes has insisted that he wants Newcastle United teammate Miguel Almiron to beat him to the Premier League Player of the Month award for October.
Last month, the Magpies enjoyed their best points return in a single month in the top flight for 16 years, collecting 16 points from their six matches.
When the candidates for the next monthly accolade were announced on Thursday, it came as no surprise that Newcastle had three candidates included in the eight-player shortlist.
As well as Guimaraes and Almiron, Kieran Trippier was also put up for nomination, but Guimaraes feels that there can be only one winner for the third month of the campaign.
Very proud to be running for the best of the month again, but I wanted to ask you to vote from miggy, even if me and @trippier2 are doing well, miggy is living his dreams 🖤🤍 https://t.co/rBtSNrK3GI

The Brazil international was speaking after Almiron put together the best month of his Newcastle career, helping his team to five victories and a draw.
Almiron remarkably scored six goals in as many games, those strikes being spread over five fixtures after he started October with a goal-of-the-season contender at Fulham.
After netting during the latter stages of the 5-1 triumph over Brentford, the Paraguay international scored another long-range effort to earn Newcastle a 1-0 win over Everton.
Although the 28-year-old drew a blank against Manchester United, he contributed two more tremendous individual goals in wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Guimaraes has chipped in with two goals and two assists from the centre of the pitch, those contributions only telling a part of the story with the former Lyon man continuing to have a sustained impact in midfield.
Trippier provided two assists, which came against Brentford and Villa, but the full-back has provided a regular threat from set pieces and from the flanks.
The Newcastle trio face stiff competition from five other players, including Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Braut Haaland.
Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka and Brighton & Hove Albion playmaker Leandro Trossard make up the rest of the list.
