Ronald Koeman's Barcelona exit clause is delayed until 2021 as a result of the postponement of the European Championships due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Ronald Koeman's Barcelona exit clause has been delayed until 2021 as a result of the postponement of the European Championships due to the coronavirus outbreak.

UEFA announced on Tuesday that Euro 2020 will now take place from June 11 to July 11 next year.

The Netherlands head coach has a clause in his contract which allows him to join Barcelona after the completion of the tournament but its delay means that Koeman's potential arrival at the Spanish giants has also been put back.

"The clause in my contract to go to Barca is after the Euro Cup," the 56-year-old told Marca.

"No date has been mentioned, so now it is after the European Championship in 2021. But anyway, I haven't thought about it for a second."

Koeman spent six years at Barcelona during his playing career, making over 200 appearances for the Spanish side and was also assistant manager at Camp Nou under head coach Guus Hiddink between 1998 and 2000, before going on to manage the likes of Ajax and Benfica as well as English clubs Southampton and Everton.

Current Barcelona manager Quique Setien, who was appointed in January, has endured a difficult start to life in one of football's biggest roles and has had to deal with off-field issues including a public dispute between Lionel Messi and sporting director Eric Abidal.
