Steven Gerrard was 'floored' by Luis Suarez bite

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard admits that he knew Luis Suarez would leave Anfield the moment that he witnessed him bite Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he knew that Luis Suarez would leave when the Uruguayan bit Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

The striker was subsequently banned from all football for four months after the incident in Brazil, and the Reds skipper said he accepted that Suarez's Anfield days were numbered when he saw the incident.

Suarez joined Barcelona for £75m in July and, speaking to former teammate Jamie Carragher for Sky Sports News, Gerrard said: "When I watched the footage of the bite, I was already on the floor, because we'd just gone out [of the World Cup] basically, and that was the double blow.

"When I watched it, I knew we were going to lose our best player. I knew there was no back for him really, and he was going to engineer a move away."

Gerrard was part of the Liverpool side that beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 on Sunday, and the midfielder netted the second goal from the penalty spot.
