Steve Cotterill: Bristol City players "must carry on fighting"

Steve Cotterill insists that Bristol City's 'team of winners' will soon adjust to the demands of Championship football after their slow start to the campaign.

Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill has claimed that his side will only grow stronger following their shaky start to the season.

The Robins stormed to League One promotion last term, but have so far been unable to replicate that form in the second tier.

Having claimed just four points from a possible 18, City find themselves hovering narrowly above the drop zone.

Cotterill admits that losing games will take some getting used to, but insists that the positive results will soon start to arrive.

"What we have in our dressing room, from me downwards, is winners," he is quoted as saying by the Bristol Post. "We are used to winning, so this hardship we are going through at the minute will probably make us stronger as a group.

"We are winners, but at the moment we are losing - that is fact. But we must carry on fighting for one another, carry on working hard for one another and playing the football we are playing and, hopefully, get the rub of the green we don't feel we have had yet this season.

"I'm sure the results will come, but I'd just like them a little bit sooner rather than later. When we get it right, it will be really good for us at this level. But we have to go through this painful stage first."

Cotterill's men can kick-start their season on Tuesday night when they travel to face Preston North End at Deepdale.
