Conference Premier roundup: Bristol Rovers go top with win

Sports Mole rounds up Tuesday night's action in the Conference Premier as Bristol Rovers defeat Braintree Town to go top of the table.

Bristol Rovers have replaced Barnet at the top of the Conference Premier table after they secured a 2-1 victory over 10-man Braintree Town.

After Matthew Paine was sent off for a foul inside the penalty area, Matty Pattison netted from the spot, but Simeon Akinola's strike got the visitors back on level terms before half time.

It looked as though Braintree would hold out for a point, but seven minutes from time, Ellis Harrison found the bottom corner from inside the penalty area to send his side two points clear.

A second-half effort from Nathan Arnold has helped Grimsby Town move into fourth place with a 1-0 win over AFC Telford United, who remain 10 points from safety at the bottom of the standings.

Forest Green Rovers have dropped down to fifth after they were held to a goalless draw by Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground.

Gateshead have kept their playoff hopes alive with a 2-0 win over Kidderminster Harriers thanks to goals from Alex Rodman and Carl Finnigan.
