A goal from John Terry has given Chelsea a 1-0 lead over West Ham United at half time in their Premier League match at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.
Chelsea came close to opening the scoring just five minutes in when Carl Jenkinson failed to clear a Willian cross, leaving Oscar to fire towards the West Ham goal, but his finish was a little high.
The hosts continued to look the more likely as Willian played it forward again for Terry, who crossed it in for Gary Cahill, but his header failed to test Adrian.
The West Ham keeper did come under pressure shortly after as Cahill was left unmarked on the edge of the box, leaving the defender to fire a powerful strike towards goal, but Adrian punched it clear.
Chelsea's persistence paid off with just over half an hour played as Terry tapped in from a corner to give the home side the lead after Diego Costa had flicked it on for the captain.
Nemanja Matic and Costa both had chances to double the lead before the break, but the defender saw his effort saved before the latter's finish went high.
