Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is reportedly considering selling his stake just two years after leading a takeover of the Premier League club.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has reportedly indicated that he is considering whether to sell his shares in the club.

Just two years ago, Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed a £4.25bn takeover of Chelsea from previous owner Roman Abramovich.

However, Bloomberg are reporting that the relationship between Clearlake co-founder Behdad Eghbali and Boehly has deteriorated in recent months.

As a result, the report claims that the respective parties are now assessing their options and whether they could buy each other out.

However, according to Sky Sports News, Clearlake are unwilling to sell their 61.5% stake in the club and are not under any pressure to give up their interest in Chelsea.

While Clearlake are unwilling to sell their stake, they are open to purchasing any of the remaining 38.5% of shares which are split equally between Boehly, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss.

The report also claims that the current relationship between co-owners Boehly and Eghbali is a 'professional' one.

As per The Telegraph, Boehly 'remains committed' to Chelsea despite taking a step back from the day-to-day running of the club over the past year.

Clearlake and Boehly's tumultuous time in charge

While the current ownership structure have only been in charge for two years, their tenure has generated significant attention largely due to their big spending in the transfer market.

They have spent over £1bn since assuming control from Abramovich, including breaking the British transfer record on two occasions to sign Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

However, their serious investment in the transfer market has failed to yield a trophy, with the Blues falling short in February's EFL Cup final against Liverpool.

Clearlake and Boehly have also been unable to settle on a manager, having parted ways with Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino in the past two years.

They are hoping that new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca can be the man to lead Chelsea to their first piece of silverware since winning the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup.
