Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirms a fresh injury blow to one of his first-team players ahead of Wednesday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed a fresh injury blow to one of his first-team players ahead of Wednesday's Premier League encounter with Newcastle United at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles are in high spirits at present after they followed up a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Liverpool with a thumping 5-2 home win over West Ham United last weekend.

Jean-Philippe Mateta (2), Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze were all on target for Palace, who celebrated back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

Glasner's men have all but secured their top-flight status for a 12th successive season as they sit 14th in the Premier League table, 11 points clear the relegation zone with a game in hand on 18th-placed Luton Town.

A tricky midweek contest with a resurgent Newcastle outfit is up next for the Eagles, and Glasner has confirmed that he is unable to call upon one of his senior men on Wednesday.

Rob Holding suffers injury setback

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Glasner revealed that defender Rob Holding has sustained a fresh injury which will rule him out of the clash against Newcastle.

Holding has only made one senior appearance for the Eagles since joining from Arsenal last summer - playing the full 90 minutes in an EFL Cup defeat at Manchester United in September last year.

The 28-year-old centre-back made a welcome return to training last week and watched on as an unused substitute against West Ham, but he is now facing another spell on the sidelines.

"Unfortunately Rob Holding is injured again," Glasner told reporters. "It is tough because he is just back from injury. We don't know the degree but it is something with his hamstring, so we don't know how long it will take.

"He will definitely miss tomorrow's game and I think Saturday against Fulham. That is the bad news, but the other players are fit."

Glasner has not put a timescale on Holding's potential return, but the Austrian has stated that the rest of his Palace squad will offer their support to the defender during his recovery.

"[It's frustrating] for all of us, especially him," said Glasner. "When you come back after a long injury and work so hard, and then see him smiling in training with the team and his first time in the squad.

"But sometimes it happens, especially if you are not used to team training or your body isn't used to it. It happened, and we have to accept and learn from it, so it doesn't happen again."

Elsewhere, Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is expected to be available for selection despite coming off in the second half against West Ham with a knock to his knee.

However, Sam Johnstone (elbow), Cheick Doucoure (Achilles), Marc Guehi (knee), Jefferson Lerma (thigh) and Matheus Franca (groin) all remain in the treatment room.
