Hodgson: 'Next qualifiers are vital'

Roy Hodgson believes that it is vital for England to get positive results from their World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and San Marino.

England manager Roy Hodgson has insisted that his team need to get the most out of their next World Cup qualifiers.

The Three Lions, who sit second in Group H in between third-placed Poland and table-toppers Montenegro, take on San Marino and the leaders this month.

"[The next qualifiers] are obviously very important when you've only got 10 matches to qualify and only one team can qualify," Hodgson said in a press conference.

"We have got three teams who can, with respect to San Marino, and when you play against those teams like Montenegro and Poland the result is obviously of vital importance.

"With six matches to play, I would refute that the match [against Montenegro] would be decisive, but it's important we go there and play well. We go there to win and if we can win there, we do make our cause in the autumn that little bit easier."

Hodgson opted to select Rio Ferdinand for the first time since he was appointed England manager.
