Everton boss Roberto Martinez: 'Kevin Mirallas injury not as bad as feared'

Roberto Martinez says that the club have "great news" regarding Kevin Mirallas as the midfielder's ankle injury isn't as bad as first feared.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Kevin Mirallas's injury is not as bad as first feared and does not expect the midfielder to be out for "too long".

The 27-year-old was stretchered off during the Toffees' 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Goodison Park on Monday night.

While Martinez has admitted that he was "worried" about the prognosis, the Spaniard has confirmed in this morning's press conference that Mirallas could return sooner rather than later.

"We have great news," Martinez told reporters. "We were very worried about Kevin Mirallas because we felt the ankle had definite damage but it is the least it could be. He is a quick healer so I don't expect him to be out for too long."

Everton, who are 10th in the Premier League table, will take on Southampton at St Mary's on Saturday.
