Everton central defender Jagielka claims that the lack of money at the club is stopping any sort of progress.

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has claimed that the club are struggling to advance due to their lack of financial backing.

The England international says that the side are unlikely to keep up with their rivals because they "haven't got the money".

The club's fans have voiced their concern at the progress of the side under the control of chairman Bill Kenwright, while the lack of activity in the transfer window disappoints Jagielka too.

"We can't buy expensive players to take the squad to that next level. All we can do is work with what we have," Jagielka told Football Focus.

However, the former Sheffield United player says that the club will not be making excuses this season and remains optimistic for the rest of the campaign.

"We roll our sleeves up and, normally, after Christmas, climb the table," said Jagielka.

Everton currently sit 10th in the league and travel to the Emirates Stadium this Saturday to face fifth-placed Arsenal.
