Everton manager Roberto Martinez has told Arouna Kone that he is not guaranteed a place in the starting lineup for Saturday's Premier League opener at Norwich City.
The Ivory Coast striker recently followed Martinez to Goodison Park from Wigan Athletic for a fee of £6m.
"When I bring a player into the squad, it is to fight for the position," The Mirror quotes Martinez as saying.
"I want to see them competing for places and I want football to make the decision. We are strong in that department and that position is still open for Saturday."
Kone scored 13 goals in all competitions for Wigan last season.
