Andre Schurrle: 'Germany expect to win World Cup'

Andre Schurrle believes that Germany expect to win the World Cup every time they arrive at the tournament.

Andre Schurrle has claimed that Germany expected to win the World Cup ahead of their arrival in Brazil this summer.

Joachim Low's side are currently preparing for their quarter-final against France on Friday, and Schurrle believes that anything less than lifting the trophy at the Maracana will be considered a failure for the squad and their supporters.

"When you come to a World Cup with Germany you are expected to win it," the Chelsea forward told The Telegraph.

"We don't come here just to take part. When you have this team with these players, everyone in our country and all around the world has big expectations of us. This is always the way.

"We have big ambitions and we have that feeling more than ever now that we are into the last eight."

Schurrle scored the crucial second goal as Germany edged past Algeria in the last 16 following a dramatic period of extra time on Monday night.
