Hamburger SV "to continue" with Bert van Marwijk

Hamburg chief executive Carl Jarchow reiterates that under-fire manager Bert van Marwijk has the full support of the board despite a sixth consecutive defeat on Saturday.

Hamburger SV chief executive Carl Jarchow has reiterated the board's support for under-fire manager Bert van Marwijk.

The team have been in disappointing form recently, losing their last six Bundesliga matches - including three consecutive 3-0 defeats - to slip into the relegation zone.

Saturday's loss at home to Hertha Berlin sparked protests from the supporters as they blocked the players' exit before throwing objects at them when they did try to leave.

However, despite the fans' protestations, Jarchow insists that the board still has faith in Van Marwijk, who took over from Thorsten Fink earlier this season.

"The board came together after the game and analysed the current situation. We have agreed with the board's decision to continue with Bert van Marwijk," Jarchow is quoted as saying by PA.

"Here are the three major issues that were at the centre: has the coach achieved with the team yet? Is he determined enough? Does he have a plan?

"We have answered all three questions with a resounding yes. For this reason, there is no reason for personnel changes."

Hamburg's next match sees them host in-form Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal quarter-finals on Wednesday.
