Roy Hodgson confirms that Andy Carroll will start for England against Norway tomorrow, boosting the striker's chances of featuring in the Euro 2012 group games.

England manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Liverpool striker Andy Carroll will start for the Three Lions in their pre-Euro 2012 friendly against Norway tomorrow.

The former West Bromwich Albion coach has dropped a hint that the ex-Newcastle United frontman could take Wayne Rooney's place in the first two group games of the European Championships if he impresses in Oslo tomorrow.

"I think [Carroll] ended the season very, very well after a difficult start to his career at Liverpool," Hodgson said in a press conference.

"He's finished very strongly and he's continued in the same vein in the training sessions. Yes, he will start. Quite a lot of my positions are taken care of."

With Rooney absent for England's clashes against France and Sweden due to suspension, Carroll, Danny Welbeck and Jermain Defoe will be the contenders for the starting place.

Hodgson also confirmed that Robert Green, Scott Parker and Steven Gerrard will be in the starting XI tomorrow.
