Tiago Ilori determined to fight for place in Liverpool's first team

Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori is determined to "fight" for a place in the first team after spending two seasons out on loan.

Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori has claimed that he will try to "fight" his way into Brendan Rodgers's first-team squad this season following loan spells abroad.

The Portugal Under-21 international, who signed for the Reds in 2013 for £7m, is yet to be given his chance at Anfield.

Since moving to Merseyside, the 22-year-old has been shipped out on loan to Granada and Bordeaux, where he made 12 appearances last season.

"I want to play for Liverpool," Ilori told the Liverpool Echo. "I don't want to be in Liverpool just to be sitting around. My objective is the same as every other player, we all want to play so everyone's going to fight for their place."

Ilori was part of the Portugal U21 side that reached the final of the European Championships in June, but they missed out on the trophy as Sweden won the game on penalties.
