Samir Nasri hints at international retirement

Samir Nasri suggests that he is close to calling time on his international career with France.

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has indicated that he has decided to quit international football.

The 27-year-old is known to have fallen out with France head coach Didier Deschamps, which is believed to have been the major factor behind his exclusion from this summer's World Cup.

With that in mind, Nasri has hinted that he will shortly end his stint with Les Bleus, which he believes will benefit his club career.

"Yes, I've made the decision. I took it a while ago but I'll say it when the time is right. It's not something you can just announce on Twitter," he told reporters.

"I didn't win anything with the national team so it's more easy to take this decision than if we'd just won something. When you play for a big club and you play lots of games, it's easy to come to this decision.

"Maybe during the international breaks I can stay and work a little bit more. All the players who played the World Cup and have lots of games during the season with their national teams can get tired and pick up injuries, that kind of stuff, so I think I will be fresh."

Nasri has been capped on 41 occasions by the one-time World Cup winners.
