Newcastle United ar handed injury blow as forward Callum Wilson will be out of action for Saturday's clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Newcastle United have been dealt a blow heading into Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester United, as forward Callum Wilson is unable to make the squad.

Wilson, who joined the Magpies at the beginning of last season, was forced off with a thigh injury in their game against Southampton prior to the international break, and manager Steve Bruce confirmed that the 28-year-old will not return in time for Saturday's trip to Old Trafford.

Speaking to reporters, Bruce said: "Callum won't make the weekend, unfortunately, he picked up a thigh injury, a muscle strain."

Such news comes after Wilson hit two goals in the opening three games of the new Premier League campaign, having also hit the net 12 times in 26 appearances in the top flight for the Magpies last season.

The forward joins former Bournemouth teammate Ryan Fraser in the treatment room, and leaves Joelinton and Dwight Gayle as the only fit senior strikers available for Saturday's trip, and Bruce was unable to put a date on his striker's return.
