Wednesday's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup: Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish, Raul Jimenez

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester United on Wednesday, July 29.

Manchester United must now turn their attention to the summer transfer window having left their business until late in January.

The Red Devils brought in Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo in the final days of the winter window but are still expected to be active in the summer as they aim to restore their former glories.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Old Trafford.

Wednesday morning's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup:

Arsenal suffer blow in Dayot Upamecano pursuit?

Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Dayot Upamecano after the defender agreed to extend his current deal at RB Leipzig, according to a report.

The Frenchman has been linked with a host of top European sides following his performances in the Bundesliga this term, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and AC Milan all credited with an interest.

Upamecano's contract with Julian Nagelsmann's side was due to expire at the end of next season, but according to German outlet Sportbuzzer, the centre-back has committed his long-term future to Leipzig.

Arsenal were believed to be hopeful of striking a cut-price deal for the defender this summer, but the report claims that Leipzig have inserted a £53m release clause in Upamecano's new contract.

Even though this figure may still be regarded as a reasonable price for the 21-year-old, Arsenal will supposedly be limited to swap and part-exchange deals during the transfer window in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Upamecano has turned out 36 times for Leipzig across all competitions this term, with the Bundesliga outfit set to take on Atletico Madrid in the quarter finals of the Champions League in August.

Four Serie A clubs want Manchester United's Chris Smalling?

Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling is reportedly wanted by four Serie A clubs following his performances for Roma this season.

The England international has played a key role in the heart of the Roma defence during his loan spell with Paulo Fonseca's side this term, making 28 top-flight appearances for the Serie A outfit and registering two goals and two assists.

Roma are reportedly keen to strike a permanent deal for Smalling, but I Giallorossi are likely to miss out on Champions League qualification unless they can achieve Europa League glory in August.

Roma's financial struggles are said to be hindering negotiations between the two clubs, with Calciomercato claiming that United are holding out for a fee of £18.2m while Roma are refusing to shell out more than £16.3m.

As a result, Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan are all said to be keeping a close eye on developments and are ready to engage in a bidding war for Smalling should Roma fail to agree a deal with Man United.

The 30-year-old's current contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the 2021-22 season.
