David de Gea baffled by Manchester United's decision to sell Javier Hernandez

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea says that he does not understand why Javier Hernandez was sold by the club.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has admitted that he is baffled by the club's decision to sell Javier Hernandez in the summer transfer window.

The Mexican international, who scored 20 goals in his first season at Old Trafford following his arrival in 2010, signed for Bayer Leverkusen in the summer after dropping down the pecking order.

Hernandez has scored nine goals since joining the German club, and De Gea is hopeful that he will one day play alongside the striker again.

"I don't know [why he was not wanted] - these are decisions for the coach, but in my team he would always play," De Gea told ESPN.

"He was an undisputed starter before and player of the year at United. He can get you 20, 30 goals a season. I would like a lot to play with him again, hopefully it can happen."

Hernandez has been linked with Chelsea, but reports have claimed that the Premier League champions have not made contact with the striker regarding a transfer.
