Manchester United's financial figures show that the club was forced to fork out a total of £10m in compensation following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United seemingly had to fork out a whopping £10m following the sacking of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 4-1 defeat at Watford proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the Norwegian, who was sacked after nearly three years in the dugout at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer was let go at a time when his deal still had over two-and-a-half years left to run, meaning that Man United were forced to dip into their cash reserves to pay off the 49-year-old.

With the club's latest financial figures now public, it has been shown that a total of £10m was spent on "exceptional items, includes compensation to the former men's first team manager and certain members of coaching staff for loss of office."

According to Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Solskjaer received £7m in compensation, but the details of payments made to his coaching team remain confidential.

Ralf Rangnick took over on a temporary basis from Solskjaer, but director of football John Murtough has now revealed that a "thorough" search for a new permanent manager is now underway.
