Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag remains convinced that Marcus Rashford will hit the goal trail in the coming weeks, claiming that the forward will be "on fire" once he has hit full flow.

The 25-year-old was comfortably his side's main source of goals during the 2022-23 campaign, netting 30 times in all competitions, while he also provided 11 assists in his 56 appearances.

Rashford has found it difficult to make his mark this season, though, with his only goal of the campaign coming against Arsenal in the Premier League at the start of September.

The England international has provided three assists, including one against Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday, but he passed up an excellent chance against the Turkish side, as he attempted to pick out Bruno Fernandes with a cross rather than shoot once he had broken into the box.

There have been suggestions that Rashford's starting role is no longer guaranteed, although he is still expected to be in the XI against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Ten Hag was asked about the forward during his press conference to preview the clash with the Bees, and the Dutchman insisted that he has the support of everyone at the club.

"Strikers when they don't score, they need a moment and it will come. He's so experienced and when he's doing the right things and the team is, the momentum will come and he'll be on fire," he told reporters.

"It's normal not to be always at the same levels. Everyone knows the quality of him, also the opposition knows, but if Rashy is doing things right and the team is doing things right, putting him in the right places, then it's up to him.

"We have seen in the last weeks, he's getting into good positions, now he's a little bit struggling but this will pass because everyone knows his qualities.

"Everyone at Manchester United backs him, the whole team is supportive of him and believes in him, so I'm sure with that confidence, with that belief, this will change and pass."

Rashford was substituted late on against Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend, while he was also replaced in the second half of the 3-2 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Red Devils will be bidding to avoid a third successive home defeat on Saturday, but it has already been their worst start to a league campaign for 34 years, suffering four losses from seven matches.

Man United also have serious work to do in their Champions League section, sitting bottom of Group A on zero points following back-to-back losses to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

Antony could start against Brentford after returning from a leave of absence, but Sergio Reguilon has been ruled out of the contest with Thomas Frank's side.
