Raimond van der Gouw backs Memphis Depay to thrive at Manchester United

Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Raimond van der Gouw tips Red Devils new boy Memphis Depay to prove himself a "real star" at Old Trafford.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Raimond van der Gouw believes that new signing Memphis Depay has all the qualities necessary to prove a hit at Old Trafford.

The Netherlands international sealed a £25m move to the Red Devils last month after a stellar season with PSV Eindhoven, netting 22 times in 30 Eredivisie appearances.

The 21-year-old has previously worked with United boss and ex-Oranje coach Louis van Gaal, and Van der Gouw says that Depay will develop into a "real star" under the veteran's watch.

"Memphis can become a very good player for Manchester United," he told the Manchester Evening News. "He has a very good on the pitch attitude. Attitude is key and he has a very professional outlook.

"He wants to be successful, he wants to be the best, he wants to be the quickest and he'll work hard to become all those. He wants to score goals and he wants to score more but he also knows that he has to work hard defensively as well.

"He has all the potential to be a real star. In Louis van Gaal I believe he has the right manager to help him a lot. You can already see the signs of how he helped him become better when he was in his Netherlands squad. I think Manchester United fans are going to love him."

Depay featured and was credited with a goal in Friday's 4-3 defeat to USA in Amsterdam.
