Bayern Munich set Tottenham Hotspur a deadline of midnight on Friday to agree a deal for England captain Harry Kane, according to a report.

Bayern Munich have reportedly set Tottenham Hotspur a deadline of midnight on Friday to agree a deal for England captain Harry Kane.

The 30-year-old's future has been the subject of intense speculation during the summer transfer window, as his contract in North London now has less than 11 months left to run.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have both been heavily linked with the forward, but Bayern are currently at the head of the queue, with the Bundesliga champions looking to bring in a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona last summer.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Marco Neppe met with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy earlier this week to discuss a move for Kane to Allianz Arena.

However, it is believed that the two clubs are still £15m apart in terms of their valuations, with Bayern having an £85m bid turned down, as the Premier League outfit hold out for £100m.

According to The Telegraph, Bayern have set Spurs a deadline of midnight on Friday for the London club to accept their offer.

The report claims that if a deal cannot be agreed by the end of the day, then the Bundesliga champions will switch their attention to other transfer targets.

Kane will allegedly stay with Tottenham and see out the final year of his contract with the club if a move to Bayern cannot be agreed before the deadline.

Spurs remain hopeful that the striker can be convinced to sign a new deal, but it is understood that he will depart on a free transfer next year unless an agreement is found with Bayern.

There is still believed to be 'cautious confidence' that an agreement can be reached, with Bayern making it clear that they are willing to pay a club-record fee for a player out of contract next summer.

Kane, as it stands, would be able to agree a pre-contract with the Munich giants in January.

However, Man United would allegedly be serious contenders for the Three Lions skipper if he was able to choose his next club in the summer of 2024.

The speculation surrounding the striker's future continues to overshadow Tottenham's preparations for the new season, with Ange Postecoglou's side starting their Premier League campaign away to Brentford on August 13.

Before the clash with the Bees, Spurs will take on Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona in friendly matches, and Kane is due to feature in both of those games as it stands.
