Dion Dublin says that Manchester United should not bother keeping hold of Wayne Rooney if he wants to leave the club.

Former England striker Dion Dublin believes that Manchester United should allow Wayne Rooney to leave the club if he wants to.

The 27-year-old handed in a transfer request towards the end of last season and has been strongly linked with moves to both Arsenal and Chelsea this summer.

"We don't know what's gone on behind closed doors. But if there's any player that wants to leave then, as a player, you wouldn't want to play with them. You don't respect your fellow teammates if you're saying that you want to leave. If he has, then there's no future for him," Dublin told reporters.

"I can't see Wayne Rooney asking to leave Manchester United, I think it's come from people around him. If he has said it then it must be because he's been nudged that way. He's sharper than people think."

Rooney is currently out injured with a hamstring injury.
