Manchester United have reportedly opted to trigger the one-year option in Victor Lindelof's contract, which will see the Swedish defender remain at the club until 2025.

Manchester United have reportedly opted to trigger the one-year option in Victor Lindelof's contract, which will see the Swedish defender remain at the club until 2025.

Lindelof has been an important part of Erik ten Hag's side this season and has already notched up 18 appearances for the club this term.

The 29-year-old's contract with The Red Devils was expected to run until June 2024, which would have meant that he would have been able to discuss his future with other clubs in the New Year.

However, according to a report from The Athletic, Man United have now chosen to activate the automatic one-year extension to the defender's contract, which will keep him at Old Trafford until the end of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

The report adds that Ten Hag sees Lindelof as an important part of his defence, with the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire currently sidelined through injury.

United have had to rely on 35-year-old Jonny Evans several times this season, while Luke Shaw has also been on the treatment table, and Raphael Varane's future remains up in the air ahead of the January transfer window.

Lindelof joins Bruno Fernandes, Shaw and Marcus Rashford, who have all signed new deals with The Red Devils this season.

The Sweden international arrived at Old Trafford back in 2017 for a fee of around £30.7m from Primeira Liga outfit Benfica.
