Everton manager Roberto Martinez has reportedly made Michael Carrick one of his major summer transfer targets.
The midfielder's Manchester United contract is due to expire in the summer and he recently revealed that talks regarding an extension to those terms are yet to have started.
According to The People, the uncertainty over Carrick's Old Trafford future has since captured the attention of Martinez.
The report adds that the Toffees have become increasingly confident during the last few weeks that a deal to take the England international to Goodison Park can be struck.
Carrick, 35, has won five Premier League titles, one League Cup and the Champions League since joining the Red Devils from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.
