Sammy Ameobi insists that Middlesbrough can still reach the playoffs in the Championship this season.

Sammy Ameobi has insisted that Middlesbrough still believe they can reach the playoffs in the Championship this season.

Boro are currently six points adrift of sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion following Tuesday's goalless draw with Peterborough United.

"It's not going to be easy," Ameobi, who is on loan from Newcastle United, told the club's official website. "What game in the Championship is easy? Everybody is beating everybody. The belief is still here, no one has given up.

"I think the gods have favoured us. We're still just six points away, we'll keep fighting and pushing."

Middlesbrough return to action on Saturday when they travel to promotion rivals Hull City.
