Nottingham Forest boss Dougie Freedman wants goalkeepers to fight for place

Dougie Freedman suggests that he is yet to decide whether Dorus de Vries or Karl Darlow will be his first-choice goalkeeper at Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman has suggested that he is yet to decide on whether Dorus de Vries or Karl Darlow is his number one goalkeeper.

De Vries agreed a new two-year deal with the club on Monday, after being dropped to the bench in Saturday's 3-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Darlow, who came through Forest's youth system in 2010, was reinstated to the starting XI, despite De Vries starting four consecutive Championship games in January.

"If I am going to give them the responsibility to play for this club and for this team, then they have to be accountable for that," the Nottingham Post quotes Freedman as saying. "Then I will judge things.

"My loyalty is to the team and to the club. That is how it will be. Nothing is automatic when it comes to team selection."

Freedman was appointed Forest manager on February 1 following the sacking of Stuart Pearce.
