How Real Madrid could line up against Athletic Bilbao

Sports Mole looks at how Real Madrid could line up in Sunday night's La Liga clash with Athletic Bilbao.

Real Madrid will go in search of their 11th La Liga win of the season when they welcome Athletic Bilbao to the Bernabeu on Sunday for their final match of 2019.

Los Blancos are currently level on points with Barcelona at the top of the table, only second to the reigning champions on goal difference following Wednesday's 0-0 draw at Camp Nou.

Zinedine Zidane's side will be looking to end their 2019 in a positive fashion this weekend, although Bilbao have only lost four league matches this season and are just three points off the top four as things stand.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Madrid could line up on Sunday night.

Not too much has changed for Madrid on the injury front, with Marco Asensio, James Rodriguez, Lucas Vazquez, Eden Hazard and Marcelo still unavailable for selection.

Rodriguez has taken part in training this week as he steps up his recovery from a knee problem, but Sunday's affair will come far too soon for the Colombia international.

Zidane will also be unable to call upon key midfielder Casemiro, with a booking in El Clasico meaning that the Brazilian is suspended for the final game of 2019. As a result, Luka Modric - on the bench at Camp Nou - could join Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde in the middle of the park.

The back four and goalkeeper are likely to remain unchanged, although there could be an alteration in the final third with Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior pushing to replace Gareth Bale.

Rodrygo could ultimately get the nod alongside Karim Benzema and Isco, with the latter expected to keep his spot having impressed against Barcelona last time out.
