Former Real Madrid left-back Marcelo will not be joining Leicester City on a free transfer, according to a report.

Leicester City are reportedly not planning to sign Marcelo on a free transfer despite the recent speculation surrounding the former Real Madrid captain.

On transfer deadline day, the Foxes were linked with the left-back, and there were suggestions that Brendan Rodgers's side were close to securing his signature on a free transfer.

However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, 'there is nothing' in the rumours, with Leicester not planning on bringing the Brazilian to the King Power Stadium before the deadline.

The 34-year-old joined Los Blancos from Fluminense in 2007, and he made 546 appearances for the club during a highly-successful spell, scoring 38 goals and contributing 103 assists in the process.

Marcelo found it difficult to secure regular action during the 2021-22 season, though, making just 18 appearances in all competitions, with only 12 of those coming in La Liga.

Real Madrid decided against handing the South American a contract extension, which saw him become a free agent when his deal expired at the end of June.

Leicester, who are in Premier League action against Manchester United on Thursday night, have allowed Wesley Fofana to leave the club this summer, with Wout Faes and Alex Smithies their only additions at this stage.
