New MLS franchise Los Angeles FC target Cristiano Ronaldo?

New MLS franchise Los Angeles FC are reportedly set on bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo as their first designated player when they start playing in 2018.

New Major League Soccer franchise Los Angeles FC are aiming to make a statement by bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo for their first season, according to a report.

The club, which was announced under the working name LAFC last October, are backed by a host of businessmen and sportsmen including basketball legend Magic Johnson, Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan and former NBA executive Tom Penn.

According to The Mirror, the club are already planning to make Ronaldo their first designated player when they begin life as an MLS franchise in 2018.

Designated players can be paid outside each club's salary cap, and Ronaldo would join former stars of European football such as Andrea Pirlo and Kaka if he were to make the move across the Atlantic.

Senior figures at LAFC reportedly understand that the 2013 and 2014 Ballon d'Or winner would be open to a move to the MLS when his career in Europe comes to an end.
