Rickie Lambert "proud" of Southampton's start

Rickie Lambert is pleased with Southampton's start to Premier League life and intends for the club to make an impact.

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert has revealed that he was "proud" of the club's performance, despite ultimately losing 3-2 to champions Manchester City.

Lambert, who scored Southampton's equaliser on Sunday, has also made it clear that the Saints want to do more than just survive in the Premier League this season.

"I thought we looked okay," Lambert told Southampton's official website. "We managed to score two goals, and took the lead, so we're proud of the way that we played.

"We know we've got a hard start this season but we've come here to do well we've not just come here to survive, and I think we showed just how good we can be."

Lambert has scored 79 league goals for Southampton since 2009, more than any other player.
