Southampton are reportedly keeping tabs on the availability of Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha, who has previously been of interest to Liverpool.

Southampton are reportedly interested in Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha, amid speculation that the Saints want to bring in a new number one.

The 26-year-old has registered three clean sheets in eight Serie A appearances this season, as for the majority of the campaign he has been second-choice to former Liverpool shot-stopper Pepe Reina.

Alex McCarthy has been Southampton's number one this season, but the Englishman has seen the opposition strike past him 54 times in his 29 Premier League appearances for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.

According to Sport Witness, Lazio received and rejected a £50m offer from Liverpool for their Albanian goalkeeper, however the club has suggested that Strakosha will now be allowed to leave for a far inferior transfer fee.

The Saints' two first-team keepers McCarthy and Fraser Forster are both above the age of 30 and therefore the South-Coast club may view Strakosha as a long-term player with his prime years ahead of him.

Strakosha only has one year left on his current contract at the Stadio Olimpico having initially joined Lazio's youth development in 2013.
