Roy Keane: 'I should still be Sunderland boss'

Roy Keane feels that he should still be manager of Sunderland despite his acrimonious exit from the club in 2008 following a disagreement with owner Ellis Short.

Roy Keane has admitted that he still wishes that he was manager of Sunderland.

The Irishman left the role in 2008 by mutual consent after a run of poor results and a disagreement with owner Ellis Short.

However, Keane has revealed that he is still upset by his exit and has admitted that he greatly enjoyed his time at the club.

He wrote in his autobiography: "I didn't resign or walk out. I said I couldn't work with Ellis Short. An agreement was reached.... I don't think he was sorry to see me go, and I didn't want to work for him.

"It still saddens me. I still think I should be manager of Sunderland. I really liked the club, and I liked the people."

The 43-year-old won the Championship in his first season with the Black Cats, and guided them to a 15th-place finish on their return to the Premier League.
