Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly prioritising a new defender and a midfielder in this summer's transfer window to bolster their squad for next season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly prioritised signing a defender and a midfielder in this summer's transfer window.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side have struggled in the absence of Raul Jimenez this season, and can finish no higher than their current position of 12th - five places worse off than their seventh-placed finishes in the previous two campaigns.

In Wolves' current squad, centre-back Willy Boly and midfielder Ruben Neves have attracted interest from other clubs, and fellow defender Romain Saiss's contract expires at the end of next season, while Joao Moutinho will turn 35 years old in September.

According to the Daily Mail, those factors have made Wolves realise they need to bolster their squad in the defensive and midfield positions to climb back to the heights of their previous two Premier League campaigns.

Jimenez's recovery from his head injury sustained in November is progressing and the West Midlands club are confident that the Mexican international will return to the side at the start of next season, meaning that they do not feel the need to go into the market for another striker.

Wolves play Manchester United in the final gameweek of the Premier League season on Sunday.
