Pedro de la Rosa will complete his return to F1 in Australian Grand Prix qualifying on Friday after his HRT car was given the all-clear in scrutineering.
His new car has yet to be tested on any circuit and the Spanish-based team had requested a delay due to problems in preparing the car.
However, the FIA have passed the car as save, and it will be allowed onto Melbourne's Albert Park track, although De la Rosa is only expected to complete a few laps as there remain some last-minute issues.
The 41-year-old announced his return to racing in November.
